A portent of things to come from Viz Media? In Australia, Siren Visual has just announced plans to release the award-winning anime Monster, complete with English dub, English subtitles and original Japanese soundtrack. With word that the series is being considered for a live action adaptation from HBO, which does strong business worldwide and this series would definitely add to it, there’s been a lot of curiosity as to whether the original anime work will find its way back out again in some complete form.

Siren Visual will be releasing the 72 episode series in 5 installments beginning November 2013 in Australia.

“Please note: no HD masters exist for this series – it will be some time before a bilingual Blu-ray release will be available.”

Plot concept: Set in Düsseldorf, Germany; MONSTER is the story of a Japanese brain surgeon who chooses to save the life of a young boy over the life of the city mayor. Bizarre serial murder follows.

  1. This would be nice to see stateside. This didn’t live up to the hype surrounding it when I saw the first Viz dvd release–the “second coming of Death Note” it was not–but it was still a fun watch for me.

Even nicer to see in HD.

If no HD masters for this exist then Japan should be ashamed. They’ll have to forfeit their “most technologically advanced nation” stereotype 😉

  2. Please PLEASE let this become available in the US. Really, this is truly a masterpiece. Never expected to ever get my family into anime, or to experience an anime that made me think, cry, freak out, etc. Truly deserves all the hype it gets.
