As the show goes on and the seasons change, we do get some mild changes here and there which can lead to some fun. Case in point is that now that the colder weather is here, there’s a chance for some to have fun and mess with others, such as Yuzuki making things really hard for Yukari by slapping her cold hands on her face. But the cold weather just makes indoor activities more goofy and fun and we continue to see the way that Yuzuko really is not all that normal in a lot of ways, especially with what she’ll try to get away with in public, regardless of what others may think of her. It has its cute moments for the viewer though as she comes up with games to amuse herself. Potato, indeed.
The lengthy discussions about potatoes are amusing as it goes on and they try to determine which is the best day for actually having potatoes, which is one of the stranger conversations you can have out there. But this is ideal for the Data Processing Club as they get to it in the clubroom by doing plenty of searching online to find out about the various days, their true meanings and other modern day aspects of them, such as which days have a lot of games and manga coming out. It’s pretty amusing seeing the way they go at it, but it also takes a hilariously comical dirty turn briefly between Yuzuki and Yukari that just makes them both blush as it goes on, to say nothing of how Yukari reacts to it all.
The show also spends time on food in another way as the gang decides that a winter hotpot event is what’s needed. Not for any particular reason, but just because. Which certainly makes a lot of sense in this series and there’s a lot of fun as they try to decide what should go in it while having a bit of tea with their favorite teacher that they still call mom. Between this and just some of the simpler aspects of the winter season, including a very, very adorable flashback moment that shows us Yukari when she was a little girl, there’s more and more of the typical soft atmospheric events going on here. Showing that and a few other moments like that, including Yui as a first grader, is just hilarious in its simplicity and cuteness.
In Summary:
Yuyushiki is obviously all about mood and simple moments in life for these three high school girls. And as we’ve seen across the first half of the series, it does it well with some very adorable moments and some decent comedy. The show continues to be one that does not rise to anything above and beyond what it wants to be, but it does it all capably and competently, which some shows never really manage to do. The trio here are pretty fun to watch. With the shift to the winter months, there’s still plenty to do here and it has a different kind of warmer feeling, from games in the hall to tea time where they’re able to be silly and light with things. I continue to enjoy the show, but it’s most assuredly a series where it’s a bit light in many ways.
