Muromi-san Episode 5
Muromi-san Episode 5
A new mermaid enters Takkun’s life and it’s not going to help in the slightest.

What They Say:
One day, Mukoujima Takurou, a boy in high school who loves fishing, catches a pig tailed mermaid called Muromi-san who speaks in the Hakata dialect. She comes to visit Takurou often, along with her fellow mermaids Sumida-san, Fuji-san, Levia-san, Hii-chan, and even some other fantastical creatures such as Yeti and Harpy!

As the show rolls on, the cast continues to expand and we sometimes get characters that can really get under Muromi’s skin. The latest is the arrival of another mermaid named Fuji, who shows up while Muromi is trying to break some of her speed records and is getting close to it. Of course, Fuji compliments her in a real backhanded way by saying how it’s easy to be fast like that when you’re as svelte as Muromi is, since Fuji is overly stacked where they’re always bouncing around. Her lamentations over her bust size are certainly comical as she even says plainly that she wishes that Muromi could take some of the weight of it off of her since it’s such a hardship to suffer. That doesn’t fly well with the relatively flat chested Muromi of course and it’s more than just daggers from her eyes.

Things weren’t always this way though as we get a flashback scene to millions of years ago again, before humans ruled the world, and we see how they were all good friends and Fuji had a completely idolizing view of Muromi because of her beauty and skill at dance, but particularly her tail. So when Muromi spends more and more of her time on land, essentially ruining a lot of her tail, it just pushes Fuji in all the wrong ways but also starts to make the problems between the two a bit more apparent. It also reveals why Fuji has such a distaste for the human world and how it ruined Muromi. That just complicates things even more when Fuji takes an interest in Takkun to see why Muromi is all interested in him and to find ways of messing it up. As Takkun says, life is full of “Bad Ends” when it comes to Muromi and this just heightens it.

In Summary:
Muromi-san has a good bit of fun here as we get more back story and relationship material, this time working Fuji into the picture. We also get some extended time with Takkun, which has been light lately, and that’s worked to the shows advantage. Not that Takkun is bad, but using him each episode just comes across as forced. His interactions with the group here is fun, especially when Fuji gets involved or when we see him dealing with Muromi on land in the town, allowing him to make some sharp and observant comments. Of course, when it comes to someone like Fuji, words go only so far.
