While in a lot of ways, the first Thor movie was a significant change to how the Marvel Cinematic Universe would work by going the “gods” and alien worlds route, the one film that will really be challenging is Guardians of the Galaxy, where it’ll spend the bulk of its time off of Earth and feature a talking raccoon. Kevin Feige put up a few words about the film and the way that it’ll go in different routes than we’ve seen with the other films, indicating that humor will definitely be a part of it. In talking about the casting of Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, the way things went from there made it clear how the cast dynamic will work.

“[Pratt] was hilarious, he was moving, he was … you bought him in the early versions of the outfit,” and they casted Bautista because “his banter, and ad libs, and screen tests with Pratt were awesome.”

They’re taking the approach of being unafraid of trying something different, though they’re angling towards something that the biggest box office film of all time did, so it’s a kind of safe bet on some level.

“We can take it to all those crazy places as long as all the characters respond in an emotionally truthful way. That’s why I believe people are going to respond to Chris Pratt and to an alien Zoë Saldana—because they did respond to that one time before [with Avatar]. And to a tree and a raccoon who, it is certainly our intention, will steal the whole movie.”
