Progress continues on with the film adaptation of the Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons comic series The Secret Service as Colin Firth has signed on for the lead role. Firth is being brought on to take the role of the uncle character that turns his nephew into a spy. The film, set for release on November 14th, 2014, is being directed by Matthew Vaughn for Fox. With reports that Vaughn was part of the conception of the comic with Millar, it’s expected that the book was essentially a first draft of sorts for the film, which is made all the more interesting with some of the cameos in the book, noting that “the comic also featured cameos from such real life personages as Mark Hamill and Ridley Scott (connected to the machinations of the villain). It is unclear at this time if they will appear in the movie.”

Comic Plot Concept: From the writer of Kick-Ass and the artist of Watchmen comes a collaboration decades in the making! The world’s greatest secret agent is on the most exciting case of his career. But will the end of the world as know it take a back seat to training his street-punk nephew to be the next James Bond? meanwhile, what’s the secret link between a series of kidnapped sci-fi stars, the murder of an entire town, and a dark secret from inside Mount Everest? Under Uncle Jack’s supervision, Gary’s spy skills and confidence blossom–but when the duo learn what’s behind the celebrity kidnappings, the knowledge comes at a price. The conspiracy begins to unravel, but who can be trusted when so many prominent figures seem to be involved? It’s a must-be-seen-to-be-believed action spectacle!
