Star Wars Thursday: Gears & Bolts Edition

2 min read

Star Wars Gears 1Welcome to this week’s edition of Star Wars Thursday, a celebration of all things fun, wild, and wacky in the Star Wars universe!

Even with all the ways I’ve seen to express your love with Star Wars flair, the engagement gift pictured above blows them all out of the water. I first spotted it in an article from Epbot on Pinterest Tuesday, and I knew that I needed to declare this week’s theme Steampunk Star Wars.

Caroline, the lucky recipient of the modified AT-AT that was her engagement present, describes some of its special features on her blog, The Badger and the Owl. “Each one of those rivets was cut out with a punch and applied with tweezers, and we both lost track of the number of coats of spray paint he used to get that gorgeous patina before washing it down and creating the stains and drips. He made the narwhal horn on the front as well.”

The handcrafted AT-AT design is amazingly detailed; with intricate railings along the top, seaweed circling the legs, and smoke pouring from the pipes.

My favorite photo from the set, though, is this close up of the “face” of the machine.

Now, I don’t know about all of you, but I don’t have anyone in my life with that level of mad crafting skills. I’m also positive that I’d horribly fail if I tried to make it myself. Never fear, my faithful companions, for I found a few treasures at Etsy to help assuage the pain.

This first one is a print, so you can gaze at glorious Star Wars steampunk goodness all day long. Pick one up at the Kyoob’s Etsy shop today!

Star Wars Gears 4

Next up is an actual, wearable, cosplay helmet. Doesn’t everyone have a secret longing to be the Lord of the Sith? This helmet is also from Kyoob’s shop.

Star Wars Gears 5

I’m not sure I’d enjoy wearing a helmet, but this blaster at my side would be the perfect accessory for a steampunk Han. OneStopDesign makes them to order, and even includes the batteries so the sound effects work!

Star Wars Gears 6

Clearly everything is better with a few extra gears and bolts, even Star Wars. Until next week – may the Force be with you!
