One of the winter 2013 anime series that didn’t go over well with fans in general was that of Bakumatsu Gijinden Roman, which gained some additional interest early on because of the character designs by Lupin the 3rd creator Monkey Punch. The series was simulcast on Crunchyroll but it’s highly unlikely that it’ll get licensed for home video here unless it’s ultra cheap. Nippon Columbia has set the release finally for the show and is doing an all-in full season box set that will land on July 31st for the low price of 21,000 yen for the Blu-ray and 14,700 yen for the DVD.

Plot concept: The stage is the close of the Edo period, an age when, not unlike our own time, both natural and man-made disasters left chaos in their wake. Manjiro makes a living helping the people of the troubled capital city, but behind the scenes, he also works in secret to take back precious belongings stolen from the people by unjust political powers and conspiratorial menaces. The people call him “Get-backer Roman.”
