Universal Pictures has let loose with its first trailer for the August 2nd, 2013 release of 2 Guns, which adapts the comic series of the same name by Steven Grant. Grant has written a lot of gritty material over the last thirty years in comics (Whisper, Badlands) and this film is being put together with Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington in the lead under direction by Baltasar Kormakur, who certainly has a feel for material like this. With a $90 million budget and an August release frame, it’s not a movie that one would expect to do big business, but August is a tricky month and you never know what will have legs.

Plot concept: A DEA agent and an undercover Naval Intelligence officer who have been tasked with investigating one another find they have been set up by the mob — the very organization the two men believe they have been stealing money from.
