Can a crazy series as this really draw to a close?

Mi-chan might not make it…

Ai Mai Mi continues to play it sill right up to the end here as we get some horror styl emoments at the start as Mi is dreaming while in a coma and she gets to traverse the woods with some dog-men that are just comical looking. Mi’s life is shown in a few ways here as we get to see how she’s admired as being a sandwich god (with her moaning in English over it) and how it ended up causing her to be in this condition. The attempts to wake her up are both comical and earnest from the girls and it does a good job of playing between the morbid and the hilarious in a way that this series seems able to do. Of course, Pokona is the one that saves the day and you just have to laugh at the surreal nature of it.

In Summary:
Ai Mai Mi was one of the weakest of the short form series that I’ve watched in the last year or so and it certainly doesn’t leave me wanting more, which they hint at being possible here at the end of it by saying this is the end of the first chapter. I can like some of the bits that were used throughout, but it’s just so all over the map that it lost what little appeal it had week to week depending on what it did. I can see this property working very well in a daily manga strip with the gags and tight plotting and layout of it, but even at three minutes per episode here some of them just felt like they were longer than they needed to be, which really isn’t a good thing. This is one show I won’t be sad to see go.
