The folks at Deadline have a really engaging exclusive this afternoon, one that really comes out of the blue but could be really exciting for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. while there are plenty of things said about the way the studio handles talent, in front of the camera and behind, they do attract a lot of talent. Apparently, Robert Redford is in talks for some sort of role in the sequel, which takes place in the present day post-Avengers, where he’d play a senior leadership role in S.H.I.E.L.D.. There’s no details beyond that and how far along talks are, but generally if it’s made it out to this level of discourse, it’s likely a done deal. And that just has us leaving us wondering who he’d play, though there’s an obvious nods toward how he could be the “original” Nick Fury in a way, turning the name more into a title than anything.
It’s also expected that unless it’s a one-time done and dead kind of character, Redford could get signed on for a multi-picture deal, which Deadline notes would be amusing since Redford has spent so much of the last several years enjoying the freedom of independent pictures only to go to one of the biggest franchise out there with what Marvel Studios does as a whole.
