The first full week of March has been accounted for in terms of sales and rentals and it’s not too much of a surprise overall. While Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 naturally took things the week before, it fell before Wreck-It-Ralph in its second week as that took the top spot. Surprisingly, Red Dawn landed in the number three position with little in the way of publicity or marketing that really made it matter, especially after an extremely weak box office run last year. The other new title this week is the comedy/drama Playing for Keeps, which hits the bottom end of the chart. Most of the stalwarts are still here with things like Skyfall and Argo as well as the continually building interest in Game of Thrones as the third season nears on HBO.
The rental chart plays alittle differently with Playing for Keeps landing a bit higher while Wreck-It-Ralph debuts lower since more people bought it outright, wanting to own it for family and kids. Taken 2 continues to perform strongly on the rental side with eight weeks on there now and landing in the number two spot this week, which is pretty impressive.
