One of the perks about being an editor that loves their work is that gong to Akihabara for research is a part of the job. Getting to see your magazine on the stands is another great little perk and understanding what it is that the market is like goes a long way towards connecting with them. Not that they all do it right since you can’t just push your magazine too hard and directly. Of course, you can do a little psychological play at it by looking at your own books and getting others to be interested in what you’re doing, but editors cannot live on manga alone. Luckily, at least for viewers, the area offers plenty of great places to go, including a maid cafe where one of their authors works part time. Shinobu’s pretty cute here, but it sends a certain panic through the staff about her career choices.

In Summary:
The cafe stuff obviously gets played to the hilt here and there’s a lot to like with how the staff gets caught up in it. I’m pretty burned out on maid stuff in general after the last few years, but in a short form like this for a one-off, they definitely have fun with it and it works to make you grin and smile. But I also really liked the time at the book store since it offers up so many things about how those in the industry would peruse the shelves and see what’s going on in the name of market research when they’re just fans themselves. Cute, fun and fluffy sums up this episode and it’s just what was needed.
