Vertical has made a really intriguing pickup with a new manga license called Pink, a work from Kyoko Okazaki that debuted back in 1988. The self contained book is one that was considered fairly controversial at the time, especially since it was only loosely considered shoujo and more josei, because of the darker and edgier material that Okazaki worked into the lives of young woman in Tokyo during that decade. Okazaki has a lot of works to her name since starting in 1985 and most are single volume books, which she continues to do until this day. The book is expected for a late fall 2013 release and is the final new announcement for the books that will be released during 2013 from Vertical as new licenses will be for 2014 after this.

Plot Concept: Pink is a manga about a Japanese girl named Yumi, a beautiful girl in her early 20’s. During the day, Yumi works as a regular office lady (オーエル), but by night, she works as a prostitute. Yumi needs her two jobs to make ends meet. She also needs the extra income to feed her unusual pet, a crocodile, which she keeps in her apartment. Working in an office is quite normal for young Japanese women, but keeping a pet crocodile, and being a prostitute makes Yumi stand out. In truth, few girls are like Yumi, however, many readers can empathize with her. Young women love their “something”, symbolized by her pet crocodile, and many can also identify with Yumi’s “wild at heart” nature.
