‘Star Wars’ Standalone Films Developing For Han Solo, Boba Fett

2 min read

Han SoloWhile the news has been there for a bit that there would be some standalone features in the works for the sprawling Star Wars franchise beyond the upcoming new trilogy, being directed by J.J. Abrams, Disney and Kathleen Kennedy are gearing up to give a lot of fans what they’ve wanted for years but are hesitant about after the prequels. Rumors swirled yesterday about a Yoda film, but now it’s being revealed that the two features that are being worked on, by Lawrence Kasdan of Empire Strikes Back fame and Simon Kinberg of Sherlock Holmes fame, will be on Han Solo and Boba Fett. These would be two separate films with each focusing on different aspects of the characters in their lengthy timelines.

“[A] young Han Solo saga, focusing on the wisecracking smuggler’s origin story, and a bounty hunter adventure with Boba Fett at the center of a rogue’s gallery of galactic scum.” This is being set pre-Star Wars Episode IV which is a wide open area, though there have been plenty of novels and comics that explored it. The Boba Fett feature is supposedly going to deal with him during his time between Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back, since it would be pretty tight to do it between the other two. Obviously, no real details are yet available. The only intriguing part in the details oriented area is that with disney’s Bob Iger talking about films landing between the new trilogy releases, we could be on track for a new Star Wars film every year starting in 2015 for quite a few years.
