With an August 1st, 2014 release date, production has to get going soon on Guardians of the Galaxy since it’ll likely have a whole lot of special effects to work with. The big question for it has been the casting as we’ve seen an array of names linked to it, most of them intriguing and certainly quite doable. Coming out of nowhere though is the news from Deadline that Marvel Studios has opted to go with Chris Pratt, recent of Zero Dark Thirty and known for his role as Andy Dwyer on the TV series Parks & Recreation. While some are already copping to his physique as a problem, it’s certainly something all actors deal with when coming to a physical role like this and having seen how they’ve handled actors like Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, there should be little worry that he’ll look the proper part.

With this role cast, which will be the human anchor of the movie, the real intriguing casting comes next with the alien crew.

Oversimplified Plot Concept: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, based on the Marvel comic books of the same name, features an unlikely cast of characters who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions.

Current Cast List:

Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord
To-be-confirmed actor as Arthur Douglas/Drax the Destroyer
To-be-confirmed actor as Groot
To-be-confirmed actor as Rocket Raccoon
To-be-confirmed actress as Gamora
To-be-confirmed actor as Thanos

Peter Quill - Star-Lord
