As the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot continues on in production and expectations are strong for a pickup, there’s a chance of some additional casting down the line. Cobie Smulders played Agent Maria Hill in The Avengers and apparently there are talks about her appealing in the new series in some form.
“The commitments to [How I Met Your Mother] don’t affect it,” Smulders said. “And I can’t really say but there are definite talks about it.”
How I Met Your Mother just got its pickup for the ninth and final season to hit this fall and this does open some windows for Smulders to join the series in some capacity as it goes on, if S.H.I.E.L.D. does get picked up. A cameo or two early on and then a more involved role later in the season makes a lot of sense and with the way HIMYM shoots, it could make things a bit more accessible for her as well. It would bring two actors from the film into the series at that point with Clark Gregg set to appear as Agent Coulson.
Smulders is set to reprise her role as Agent Maria Hill in Captain America: The Winter Soldier which is currently in productoin for an April 4th, 2014 theatrical release.
