History Channel is inching ever closer to the premiere of their first scripted drama series with Vikings, which debuts on March 3rd at 10pm and is slated to run for nine episodes. With as much as there is on TV today, it’s no surprise that History Channel is trying to branch out and something like this should figure well with the Game of Thrones audience on some level and even the Thor fanbase. The show comes from Michael Hirst, who has worked on mostly period pieces before, from the Elizabeth movies to The Tudors and served as a producer for The Borgias. He was also recently a writer for Camelot, which only received one season.

Plot Concept: The show tells the tale of the epic and violent world of the mighty Norsemen who raided, traded and explored during medieval times. It follows the exploits of historical figure, Ragnar Lothbrok, and the gripping sagas of Ragnar’s Viking crew and his family as he struggles to become ‘king’ of both Denmark and a large part of modern day Sweden.

The show will tell tale the driven of young Viking warrior, Ragnar Lothbrok, played by Australian actor Travis Fimmel, who longs to explore civilizations across the waters. With the help of his jester friend Floki, played by Swedish actor Gustaf Skarsgard, they build a brand new generation of faster and sleeker ships. [2] Earl Haraldson is the main advisary. A man of little vision, he suspects Ragnar’s ambitions and goes head to head with him in a struggle for supremacy and glory.
