What They Say:
Say cheese! Say cheeeese! Yotsuba’s got a shiny new camera! But this new camera is too cool for just Daddy’s silly poses. What else should Yotsuba take? Maybe the nice man at the restaurant who makes udon, or Shaggy Beard at the bike shop. But definitely not that dog down the street. He’s a little scary and… oh no! Watch out, Juralumin!!!! WAHHHH!
Content:
After a chef making udon has a run-in with a runaway Yotsuba, Yotsuba finds herself in possession of the day’s mail. While her dad gets the bulk of the mail, Yotsuba “gets” her own mail: junk mail flyers! Unsurprisingly, Yotsuba gets distracted upon finding a pizza ad, leading to the ordering of the aforementioned foodstuff. After what seems like an eternity of waiting, the pizza finally arrives! Yotsuba and her dad dig in, leading to the rare sight of a lethargic (and absolutely stuffed) Yotsuba.
Later on, Yanda arrives with the gift of bubbles. Of course, he manages to torture Yotsuba by bringing out progressively better bubble blowers to use himself. However, Yotsuba manages to have fun in spite of Yanda’s cruelty! Later on, Yotsuba goes picking chestnuts, but the real fun comes when Yotsuba gets her own camera. Yotsuba runs out to take pictures of everything, and quickly learns the importance of asking before taking someone’s picture.
When Yotsuba goes riding around town with Miura, tragedy strikes as Juralumin is cruelly chewed upon by a dog. Miura and Yotsuba seek Ena’s help, and together decide to wash Juralumin in order to get rid of the dog stench. Unfortunately, Juralumin loses her ability to speak in the process, and the girls turn to Asagi for help. Will Juralumin be repaired, or is Yotsuba doomed to depression forever?
In Summary:
Once again we’re given a fresh set of Yotsuba’s amusing antics, and it remains a ton of fun. The events in this book are still plenty enjoyable, particularly the one with the camera and the final story of the book. Not much new is introduced here, but it’s still both charming and hilarious seeing things like Yanda taunting Yotsuba and Yotsuba ordering pizza for the first time. Even though not much happens here, there’s still plenty to love here and plenty of laughs to be had for fans of the series.
