2 min read

New friends and foes arrive in this latest volume!

Story: Shinichi Kimura
Art: Sacchi
Translation: Christine Dashiell

What They Say:
Ayumu Aikawa is settling into his new life – or lack thereof – and enjoying the ties he’s building with his new roommates, strange though they may be! But when the opportunity arises to face his murderer, will this zombie/magikewl girl be up to the task?

Content:
After hearing a disturbing story about human souls being sacrificed, Ayumu returns home and receives a call from Haruna’s teacher, Dai-sensei. While running an errand for Dai-sensei regarding tofu, Ayumu ends up getting stabbed through the chest a second time. The assailant turns out to be Kyouko, who is actually a rogue magikewl girl and Ayumu’s killer. The girls appear as back up, and it turns out that Kyouko is apparently also a vampire ninja and a megalo. Even Eu is unable to stop her with unrestricted use of her powers, as Kyouko is apparently packing extra lives (literally!) Once all the girls go down, Ayumu finally gets pissed off and takes down Kyouko with his magikewl girl/zombie powers. Showing he’s not such a forgiving hero, Ayumu prepares to kill Kyouko off the rest of the way, only for Dai-sensei to appear and stop him. Suddenly, a mysterious power takes over Kyouko in order to deliver a message to Eu, and the scene comes to a close.

With the serious stuff out of the way, it’s off to the beach! At first this consists of little more than the normal tropes, but eventually a mysterious girl appears and challenges Haruna’s gluttony in an eating contest. Later on this girl reappears during a megalo attack, revealing herself as Mael Strom, a vampire ninja belonging to a clan that rivals Sera’s. By way of antics, Ayumu and Mael are married through an ancient vampire clan custom.

As the volume closes, a mysterious young man appears before Eu, admonishing her for enjoying herself and putting the others in danger in the process.

In Summary:
While the world of the series seems to be stabilizing with this volume, the overuse of common tropes and sexualization of the rather young looking Haruna continue. On the plus side, some more interesting elements have arrived in this volume. Several characters appear in order to flesh out the various factions, the way in which big bad of the book was made a threat is rather humorous. The biggest thing in this volume, though, is the hints of things to come. While most of the volume was bogged down in generic jokes, setup, and fanservice, things end on a nice cliffhanger that shows the series may be willing to aim for something more interesting after all.
