Star Wars Thursday: Star Wars Reads Day Edition

2 min read

Welcome to this week’s edition of Star Wars Thursday, a celebration of all things fun, wild, and wacky in the Star Wars universe!

Libraries and bookstores all over the nation participated in the first ever Star Wars Reads Day on October 6th! Did you? I was highly disappointed to discover that there were no events close to home. Even so, I geared up in my favorite Leia shirt and my Leia comic earrings and toured Twitter and the web to live vicariously through others.

One of my favorite Texan librarians and her colleague went all out to celebrate Star Wars Reads Day at their local library branches. When I asked Karen if she had any pictures posted, she even took a few minutes out of her day and detailed the whole event on her blog. The header image is the amazing sign she made to advertise her event.

They created scenes out of Legos, folded origami Yodas, and even had some costumed Tie Fighters stop by. (please display the final image on the blog which is the compilation photo here)

I’m not going to lie to you, I was pretty jealous of all the fun, but I did find a way to almost participate. Lots of Star Wars authors got involved on Goodreads, answering questions chatting about their jobs. Reading through their questions and answers was almost like being there. The panel included Jason Fry, Ryder Windham, Randy Stradley, Tom Angleberger, Chris Alexander , Matthew Reinhart , Jeffrey Brown and Timothy Zahn. Check it out!

Many of the authors also posted videos to YouTube.

Tom Angelberger – the author of the Origami Yoda series for middle grade readers:

Jeffrey Brown – the author of the picture book Darth Vader and Son:

Jason Fry – the author of numerous books including several “Essential Guides”

There are so many books and comics out there that celebrate the Star Wars universe. There are origami books, craft books, and even cook books! Whatever your taste; whatever your reading level; there is something you can love. What is your favorite Star Wars book?
