‘Sakura Wars: The Movie’ Getting Japanese Blu-ray Release

Originally in theaters in Japan in December of 2001, the Sakura Wars: The Movie is finally getting a high definition release there. The feature, released in the US from Geneon Entertainment back near the end of 2003, is part of a lot of material that the franchise spawned over the years. The film was done by Production I.G. under the direction of Mitsuru Hongo and will be released on January 25th, 2013 in both a regular edition and a regular edition. At this time the details are slim but it looks like it will not include the English language adaptation.

Plot Concept: The Imperial Fighting Troupe is called again to defend Tokyo against the demons. However, this time, the Douglas-Stewart Company is selling a new type of Fighting mecha that will revolutionize Japan’s defense. A superior fighting machine that will make the Flower Division obsolete. However, the girls suspect something when members of their team begin to vanish. But what can they do when their division has been placed on indefinite stand-by status?
