While the general timeframe was a given after information came out during a recent conference call that confirmed that Joss Whedon will be returning to Avengers with the sequel, the exact date hadn’t been locked down. Marvel Studios had been setting things up for 2014, and still has a bit of room to add more, but has now formally set May 1st, 2015 for Avengers 2. Which likely won’t be called that based on the titles of all the other films other than Iron Man 1-3, which is something we’re still glad to see. Giving films their own identity rather than a number makes for more engagement with the audience.
Before then, Marvel Studios has a few other announced films that are in various stages of production:
2013
- Iron Man 3
- Thor: The Dark World
2014
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier
- Guardians of the Galaxy
