‘The Wolverine’ To Stand Alone

2 min read

As production continues on in Australia for the July 26th, 2013 release of The Wolverine, Hugh Jackman gets out in front of interviewers here and there and his latest has him clearing up some questions about where everything takes place for this film in the larger scheme of things, particularly with him being the only crossover actor between the two main X-Men trilogies. The basic idea? Just treat this as a standalone feature all on its own. If we’re lucky, it’ll have precious few comments or nods towards the overall messed up continuity.

“We’ve deliberately not called it ‘Wolverine 2’ because we want it to be placed and feel like a standalone picture,” he said. “With an all-new cast and setting it in Japan, it’s going to give us a whole new visual aesthetic.”

And:

“The approach to character means we won’t be overloaded with mutants and teams and the like, so it’ll be more character-based. I think in many ways it will feel like a completely different X-Men film,” Jackman said. He continued, “I’m just really glad it’s happening. For a while it’s felt like a rocky ride. I think it’s the best idea we’ve had, the strongest script we’ve had and that now we really have an opportunity to make something really great.”
