Original Creators Talk ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Roster

2 min read

While for those not familiar with the comics there’s a lot of trepidation over a talking racoon, fans of the comics are super excited about the roster of characters that will hit in the Marvel Studios release of Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014. With the movie being comprised of aliens and some interesting ones, and being mostly unknowns to even many of the Marvel Comics fans, it’s welcome to see that at least one of the original creators is being quizzed about the characters arrival on the big screen. Vulture managed to get some good comments out of Keith Giffen, the man who created Rocket Racoon and is pretty much the most controversial character to those not familiar with the 2008 relaunch book.

“It’s the lighthearted, fun, quip-filled, bouncy stuff that fits in pretty well with all the stuff they’re already doing, and going out into space will be a nice change of setting,” he said.

“Everyone has a firm idea of who and what Spider-Man is,” Giffen said. “If you stray too far from that, people will say, ‘That’s not the Spider-Man that I know,’ and they’re disappointed. Whereas if you throw a bunch of characters like Drax on a movie screen, there are relatively few people who have some idea in their head.”
