‘Daredevil’ Director Found? And Is Marvel Swapping Properties With Fox?

2 min read

The speculation meter is running on ultra high here, but there’s some intriguing tidbits coming out of the Marvel universe and films this afternoon. First on the docket is word that while a formal offer has not been extended, there seems to be a very good chance that Joe Carnahan will come on board the Daredevil feature that Fox is desperate to get underway. Carnahan comes from recent films such as A-Team and The Grey, which performed very well overall and got him some additional street cred. The story is expected to remain the same as it’s gone through a few rewrites and polishing so no major changes are expected there.

The deal with Daredevil also comes with some interesting potential for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to the Variety report, there appears to be a swap of properties in order, though it’s not entirely clear. With Daredevil having to begin production by October 10th or revert back to Marvel, Marvel is offering to extend that if they can get some other property materials back under their own house. Fox has several properties from Marvel stemming from the X-Men and Fantastic Four realms and according to the report, they’re looking to get use out of the Fantastic Four characters. Which makes it interesting since a Fantastic Four film is in the works with Chronicle‘s Josh Trank set to helm it, the general guesswork is that it means they’ll attempt to tie that film and its characters into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. A studio crossover, you could say. Which we’ve seen to some extent considering what Marvel Studios did before everything finally got under Disney in terms of distribution. So that may open the potential for some of the Avengers to show up in a cameo in Fantastic Four. Does it also allow that team to be more formally tied to the MCU? Possibly, if done right, it could help to brand things tighter and ease some of the tensions of the fans who want to see everything tied together properly.
