With almost no real hype behind the release of the Man of Steel teaser ahead of The Dark Knight Rises, I’m not surprised by the muted response, if any, to their release. The summer 2013 feature is on a long production road and a ton of intense special effects work as we’ve heard little since the main casting and then some on location material. The first two teasers, which are practically identical, aren’t going to win over those disappointed by what Superman Returns was, which was largely little action that people craved. I continue to hear a lot about what’s in store in terms of action from unreliable sources so I have some hope that there are going to be some big scenes in here. While many aren’t exactly fans of Zack Snyder, I’m still fully in his camp after really being won over with 300, completely in love with Watchmen and a big, big fan of Sucker Punch in both of its cuts. So while there are some big films due in 2013, this is the big one for me, having been weaned on superhero movies in my childhood with the original Superman feature with Christopher Reeve.
I’m looking for big, brutal action and I think Cavill will bring it, but I’m also loving the feeling of wonder and majesty that the teaser gives off that the character of Superman should have.
