‘Devilman’ Anime Getting Japanese Blu-ray Release

2 min read

It’ll be a Christmas delight this year for Go Nagai fans as a new Amazon Japan listing is indicating that the original two part Devilman OVA is getting the high definition treatment with a 12/21 release for 9450 yen. The show is one of the older licensed releases in the US, originally released in the 90’s through the L.A Hero/Dark Image Entertainment label and then later on by Manga Entertainment in both the US and UK. Medias Blasters acquired the live action version several years ago for release as well. This release will come with a 16page booklet and a commercial collection but it does not appear that it will bring over the existing dub or subtitle tracks.

Plot Concept: Best friends Akira and Ryo (played by real-life twins, Hisato and Yusuke Izaki) are just your average high school students. That is, until they receive word that Ryo’s father has accidentally unleashed a horde of demons while conducting experiments in Antarctica. These demons spread like an infection throughout the world, possessing ordinary people and turning them against each other. When Akira is possessed, he becomes Devilman, a powerful demonic entity who somehow retains his human conscience.

  1. I’m really hoping for a North american US bluray release of the 1972 anime series+OVA mini bundle/collection soon(fingers crossed).
