Production continues to roll on with Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming release of Pacific Rim in which we get giant robots, giant monsters and humanity fighting them in big scale action. A new picture from the production has been released that shows off Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi in their Jaeger pilot uniforms, which we’ve seen before on other actors such as Idris Ilba.
del Toro had this to say alongside the release of the image:
“I am an obsessive compulsive, and I can tell you without any shadow of a doubt I am involved very deeply on everything, from the pin on the lapel of a jacket to which way the monster’s eye slants. I am essentially a socially inept creature. I dedicate my entire life to this. This is what I do, this is what I live for.”
Plot Concept: When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
