‘Avengers’ Crushes Box Office, Becomes Part Of The Billionaire’s Club

2 min read

There’s plenty to say when it comes to inflation, ticket prices, 3D, IMAX and more with how The Avengers has achieved its totals, but it is a film that has definitely drawn audiences more than many others have in awhile and has gotten such strong marks across the board that it’s one that you feel completely earns that cash, unlike say Transformers 3 for many. The film has brought in another $103 million domestically this weekend, the first time a film has had two $100 million+ weekends in addition to being the first 200+ million opener. It’ll cross the $400 million total by the end of the week to be sure (heck, we’re going again this week!) and this is on top of the $630 million it’s made overseas, which helps to edge it just over a billion. Which as many are saying, fully justifies the way Marvel Studios has operated in building towards this with five films that built the lore and various individual character fandoms.

On the flip side, Warner Bros. looks to be stumbling heavily with its remake of Dark Shadows, as it brought in just under $30 million when it was expected to hit closer to $50. Positive word of mouth and the numbers crush from The Avengers is just drawing audiences away from everything else. The rest of the list is just a bunch of holdovers for the most part, some doing decently when you get down to it like Best Exotic Hotel Marigolds which is playing in a very small number of screens, but by and large it’s another week of Avengers love, which the long time die hard comics fans are just grinning over.
