Spoilers Ahoy: ‘Avengers’ End Sequence Creation Detailed

3 min read

With The Avengers now formally at $207 million and racking up more cash throughout today, there’s been some discussion coming out about some key parts of the very end of the movie that typically only means a heck of a lot to the comics fans that knows what’s what. Tidbits have been revealed via Marvel Studios Kevin Feige and the films director, Joss Whedon, but they’re pretty spoilerific. So, we’re giving you a chance to back out now, after making it clear in the title and using a logo image. And we’re even going to give you an Angry Birds image to giggle about before you go if you don’t want to know the spoilers.

Got it?

Ok.

So after all is said and done in the film, we get the end sequence before the credits which reveals a bit about the aliens that were invading and then turns to a very brief but grin inducing moment where we meet a whole other villain that was at least connected through a tangent to this.

That being Thanos, who we got a mild taste of in Thor with a look at the Infinity Gauntlet in Odin’s treasure room. With that shot now out there in the world in total, Marvel’s Kevin Feige has talked about how they came to that.

“I wanted to get cosmic and did with Thor and told him that we wanted it to be aliens, that a portal opens in New York and aliens poor out, because the cosmic cube opened a portal. Who they were, what they were, and how they interacted was all Joss and Joss is a huge fan of Thanos.”

And with the hand turned to Whedon, he was questioned about it as well.

“He for me is the most powerful and fascinating Marvel villain. He’s the great grand daddy of the badasses and he’s in love with death and I just think that’s so cute. For me, the greatest Avengers was The Avengers annual that Jim Starlin did followed by The Thing 2 in 1 that contained the death of Adam Warlock. Those were some of the most important texts and I think underrated milestones in Marvel history and Thanos is all over that, so somebody had to be in control and had to be behind Loki’s work and I was like ‘It’s got to be Thanos.’ And they said ‘Okay’ and I’m like ‘Oh my God!’ “

Which, of course, makes you want to see Adam Warlock brought in some how as well as absolutely bloody wishing that Fantastic Four was back in Marvel’s hands so they could tie that into the shared universe properly and go all out. So close, yet so far.
