One thing that we haven’t seen in the series so far, at least in my hazy memory, are the kids parents. They get a brief moment in this brief episode here and come across as perfectly normal people who are just accepting of their situation, though they have some issues to deal with along the way. The family is off to a hot spring for a bit of a family vacation, but it’s not something that goes well for Atsumi. Because of her size, she’s mistaken by someone as a little kid and that gets her into the mens bath, the absolute last place she wants to be, or to see her brother there. Atsumi doesn’t have too many struggles due to her height, unlike Atsushi, so seeing her get mistaken for someone so young is cute but only natural coming from a much younger kid when she sees her.
In Summary:
Bringing in the parents, for the first time I think, at this stage is kind of amusing and seemingly tacked on as I had hoped for a bit more. Still, getting them at all feels like a positive, especially since we get to see that they’re pretty normal and are largely accepting of everything, though frustrated with things at times. The focus on Atsumi here is certainly cute and those with a deviously perverted mind can easily imagine how she can take advantage of the situation with a hot spring like this and in other ways, but seeing her just freaking out and panicking over it is pretty darn cute since her violent side gets out.
