‘The Wolverine’ Gets Further Japan Filming Confirmation

2 min read

When the tsunami and earthquake hit Japan last year, it affected a lot of things and one of them was the plans for the movie The Wolverine. Darren Aronofsky dropped out of it and as they brought in James Mangold later to take over the directing duties, the chances of the script being changed, rumors of a Vancouver stage shoot for the whole film and more had people wondering where it would actually be done. Fox CEO Tom Rothman tells MTV News has cleared that up with news out of CinemaCon about where the story, which deals heavily with Japan and the 1982 Chris Claremont miniseries done with Frank Miller that truly cemented the character it’s based on, will be filmed.

“We’re doing the stage work in Australia,” he explains of the recent announcement that will take the production work down under. ” …the location work will be in Japan.”

“It’s set in Japan,” continues Rothman. “A great number of Japanese actors will be in it and it’s based on the very famous run of the comics… I can just tell you on behalf of [Jackman], his goal is to make the ultimate, bad ass, berserker rage Wolverine.”

The film is set for a July 26th, 2013 release with plans to be more faithful to the character than the previous film was with a script by Christopher McQuarrie and Mark Bomback. Hugh Jackman will be reprising his role as Wolverine.
