The series where men have squid envy returns. With god panties. Oh my.
What They Say:
While performing her duties as an Inquisitor, Sigui is asked by the town people to listen to their problems. The perceived arrogance of one confession leads her to declaring that person a heretic. All heretics must be burned.

While it wasn’t high art to be sure, there was something just stupidly fun about the first episode of Queen’s Blade: Rebellion. I knew what to expect going in and I mostly got it with a variety of women going at each other fighting or complaining about the lack of fighting. If there was a disappointment about the show at that stage, it was that it introduced too many characters and didn’t give any of them enough time to really be connected with. It was pretty much to the point where I wish every episode would have their names flash up on the screen when they show up so I can at least know who they are because of the whirlwind introductions that we got.
This episode isn’t all that different as names aren’t really used all that often and as I watch the show, and enjoy it, I do wonder if I should just call them out by their characteristics or quirks more than anything else. After all, having one won with a squid as a pet that ends up putting her in a few compromising positions after she wins a fight but has to hide out a bit before the Inquisitor arrives and causes more trouble. And there are other layabout warriors as well, including a blonde with little to wear but cute pigtails to be sure. Another sequence in the first half involving the inquisitor directly is hilariously wrong as she checks out the sisters she’s visiting and has them pledge their allegiance to god by throwing their legs up in the air and exposing themselves to god. Queen’s Blade has always been one step short of full on hentai story telling and this is no exception.
Where the show goes into a truly comical zone though is in the second half when our warrior, the mysterious purple haired girl with the squid, goes to confession with the Inquisitor and essentially says things that while true are considered heretical. And that means – fight! Well, fight after the inquisitor reveals her glowing magic panties that are divined from gods will and ensure that she can do what needs to be done. Our heroine is just so shocked by this that her expression is priceless, but is it shock that they’re god panties or that the inquisitor is hiking up her skirt to show her. The resulting fight isn’t too much of a surprise, though the clothes don’t get torn as much as you’d expect, but the inquisitor is fighting for god and doing her best to bring everyone on that path with her no matter what she has to do.
In Summary:
Are you taking this seriously? Because I’m not taking this seriously. And you shouldn’t be either. That’s not the point of the Queen’s Blade franchise. While it does play things serious in its own way, the entire visual design of it is meant to make you laugh and giggle. Yeah, it can titillate too depending on your age, mindset of the amount of alcohol or drugs you’re on, but it’s mostly supposed to make you laugh and grin like an idiot. Because you realize what you’re watching. And that you’re going to continue to watch it because it’s stupidly addictive. It’s a show that is meant to be mocked and laughed at and with and it does it perfectly, making me smile and loving every stupid moment of it. This episode focuses more on just a couple of characters, which is a big plus, but the effect is the same. Boobies.
