With everything getting in line for the upcoming production of Iron Man 3, a bit more casting information has come down the line. As has been related before, primarily through existing contracts and commitments, we knew that the core cast was going to return with Robery Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle reprising their roles from the first and second films where appropriate. What’s new is that Scarlett Johansson will be coming back to the film after a run in the second one where she’ll be more outed this time as Black Widow. That reveal didn’t come to non-comics fans until later in Iron Man 2, but post-Avengers things will be a bit different.
Speculation for this at least confirms that she’ll survive Avengers without any significant issues, but it’s also viewed as a potential launch point for a standalone Black Widow feature that has been talked about in small doses since Iron Man 2. With things shaking up a bit after that feature, it could provide the right kind of lead-in to her own film.
