Multi pronged debuts of a property aren’t uncommon to be sure and the spring 2012 anime series Accel World is looking to capitalize on that as not only do we get the anime which stems from the print source material, but there’s also a PSP and PS3 game called Accel World: Ginyoku no Kakusei coming out. Namco Bandai Games has let loose with a good teaser for the game, though it’s mostly filled with anime material, but we do see some gameplay elements in there as well. The games aren’t due until the fall though, but at least the anime that debuts on April 6th should keep people interested.
Overall Plot (May contain spoilers!): In the year 2040, Neuro-synchronization, a technology system that allows humans to manipulate their five senses has become widespread where people can access the internet and enter virtual worlds. Haruyuki “Haru” Arita is a short, fat boy who is constantly bullied, causing him to have a low-self esteem. To escape the torments of real life, he logins in the school’s virtual world network where he plays squash alone where he always gets the highest score. One day, Haru attract the attention of the Student Council Vice-President, Kuroyukihime, who offers him to join a secret program called Brain Burst which allows a person to make time appear to stand still in their surroundings by “accelerating” their brainwaves in the real world. Unfortunately, there is a limit to how many times a person can accelerate which uses Brain Burst points and the primary way to get more points is to fight other Brain Burst users in a virtual reality massive multiplayer online (VRMMO) fighting game and defeat them.
