New Japanese ‘Arrietty’ Home Video To Get US, UK Dubs

2 min read

While no date has hit yet and the formal solicitations have not come out, it appears that the first blush information that is leaking out indicates that the Japanese home video release of The Secret World of Arrietty of the “North American” version will contain both the US and UK dubs as well as the original Japanese track and subtitles. The surprise is that it will contain no extras though, as past releases have had good behind the scenes pieces with the voice cast and their impressions of Ghibli films and the one they worked on in particular. With Disney having done a slew of marketing material for the theatrical release on the Disney owned networks, they have a wealth of material to choose from.

While the piece at ANN that discusses this based off of the AV Watch article indicates that they’re talking solely about the Japanese release of this particular version (which comes well after the original Japanese release, viewing this as a new “international edition” essentially), it’s worth noting that when most Hollywood studios make these kinds of releases, they’re making it so that it can hit many markets without having to change things. It’s why the majority of Disney films, Sony and others have many subtitle streams for the Blu-ray editions as well as multiple dubs. in essence, what we’re seeing said for this “North American” edition being sold in Japan is going to just be a mildly repackaged edition of what we’re going to get in the US.
