‘Short Circuit’ Reboot Gets New Writer

1 min read

The reboot of rht e80’s flick Short Circuit hasn’t hit any major snags as it still has its director in Tim Hill who comes from Hop and Alvin and the Chipmunks, but things had a few problems recently when Robot Chicken writer Dan Milano bowed out of the production. That’s been fixed as Dimension Films has hired Matt Leiberman to pen the script for the planned family film. Lieberman comes from the Disney writers program and this will mark his first main project for the Disney label.

“Dimension has had great success with the SPY KIDS family series which grossed over $500 million worldwide,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company (TWC). “We are looking for SHORT CIRCUIT to be our next family franchise and are excited to be working with Matt Lieberman and Tim Hill, who has had great International success with HOP and ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS.”

Shooting is scheduled for the end of the year with a release in Summer 2013.
