What They Say
Mizuki is the female “prince” of her all-girls school and the lead guitarist in an all-girl rock band. Akira is the male “princess” of his all-boys school and wants to join her band. Love may be on his mind, but romance is difficult when everyone keeps mistaking Mizuki for a boy and Akira for a girl!

Blaue Rosen is bumped from a gig because Yuya wants his own band to perform instead. Mizuki and her bandmates protest, and Yuya decides he’ll let the all-girl band play – but only if he gets a date with Akira!

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Volume 3 opens with some winter-themed chapters: Christmas with the members of Blaue Rosen at Megumi’s house and a yakuza New Year’s party at Rui’s place. While these chapters do show Mizuki and Akira’s romance inching along, the content is mostly comedic with heaps of silliness from their friends as well as illustrations of characters in holiday garb.

The story then moves on to the Tsubasa arc. Unlike Shinnosuke, who was Akira’s opposite, this new rival for Mizuki’s affections is an extremely cute boy and just as conniving as Akira. With two such strong personalities, it’s inevitable they wind up in a duel. Their “princess” contest seems fitting at first, but it winds up less a battle between the girl-faced boys and more an excuse for Shinjo-sensei to cover Akira with hickeys.

The volume concludes with a lover’s quarrel between Akira and Mizuki. As usual, Shinjo-sensei chooses not to dwell overly long on Mizuki’s maidenly feelings and instead shifts to all out slapstick with a marriage meeting gone completely wrong. Given the choice between tender moments and raunchy humor, Shinjo-sensei definitely favors the latter.

In Summary
A new rival appears for Mizuki’s affections, and he fights just as dirty as Akira does. It’s a bizarre catfight between two girly boys as they vie for the coveted (?) title of Dankaisan High Princess!
