Star Wars Thursday: Stitch in Time Edition

2 min read

Welcome to this week’s edition of Star Wars Thursday, a celebration of all things fun, wild, and wacky in the Star Wars universe!

Every week I wait breathlessly for just the right item that will trigger the topic of my weekly post. I scour the internet so that no Bothans need die to bring you this information.
This week I found a way that you can participate with others around the world in a fabulous Star Wars extravaganza. Okay, maybe not really an extravaganza. More like a sewing circle. Hey, that could be fun, right? It’s probably less dangerous than hopping in the Millennium Falcon and heading into an asteroid field, at least.

The website “Han Stitched First” – which calls itself the home of needlework inspired by a galaxy far, far away – is hosting a Star Wars “stitch along”. They are calling for submissions of Star Wars themed needlework of all types, just for the sheer joy of sharing amongst crafters.

I’m feeling a bit inspired myself, even though I’m far from crafty. If you are like me, you may need some ideas and patterns to get you started. Never fear, I’ve found some for you to try – though I’m focusing on just the cross-stitch category today.

The image from the header of the post is from the WeeLittleStitches Etsy site that sells PDF files and completed cross stitch pieces. Here’s another Star Wars design she offers. (I know this is a Star Wars Thursday post, but I need to mention that she also has Firefly, Monty Python, Harry Potter, and more!)

One of my favorite girl geeks that I follow on Twitter – @amy_geek – has a blog called Girls with Curves. She had a wonderful post in January with geeky cross stitch images that included the following two Star Wars ideas.

The first is a mashup of the adorable R2 and his Dalek admirer. You can get this pattern on Etsy if you check out the image on Flickr from the link.

Next is the ever popular “Han Shot First”. The link will take you directly to the pattern on Etsy. The seller also has a full kit available for sale if you need a little extra assistance.

There are so many Han quotes, and I just can’t get enough of the scoundrel. Here’s a favorite; though if you want to make this cross stitch it looks like you’ll have to sketch it out yourself.

I’d love to see some of you join up on this challenge. If you do, be sure to send me the pictures of what you have created! This member of the rebel alliance is signing off with a final image from Etsy’s PopSoupSupplies:
