IDW Publishing & ComiXology Do Right By Digital Comics Fans

3 min read

Sometimes things on the digital comics front works out very well and you have to hope that it continues as the industry and grows and changes and realizes it has to do things like this to ensure continued loyalty and usage of the services provided. For the last couple of years of digital comics, there have been a couple of big players with Comixology and Graphica.ly but there have also been individual company efforts as well using things like iVerse and other home made services like Dark Horse Comics does. A couple of months ago, IDW Publishing signed onto the Comixology service in order to have their books seen at the same time as many other big name books since both DC Comics and Marvel Comics use them as their primary push to very good effect. There’s something to be said for being seen on the same digital rack as everyone else rather than just in your own publisher brand app.

After those couple of months, IDW Publishing and Comixology have made a sweet move that I wish had been announced sooner before some double purchase may have happened. With the success that IDW has had with Comixology since going with them, they’ve launched all their previously run sites today using the Comixology platform so they have a publisher branded app and some specialty apps as well for shows that make a whole lot of sense to market separately, like True Blood and G.I. Joe.

What does this mean if you bought books from the IDW Publishing app before this? Well, this is the best part of the deal. A quick bit of Q&A and account connecting between the two and all the books you bought from IDW Publishing directly are now available to you in the Comixology app as well. So rather than repurchasing if you wanted to keep your content together, you now get to slide it all together free and easy, and as we just did it, very, very smoothly and without a problem. Suffice to say, with this move we’ll now be picking up Next Men and G.I. Joe books faster than we were before.

IDW Publishing and comiXology proudly announce the expansion of their digital partnership. Starting today, these IDW apps are now powered by comiXology:

IDW ComicsTRANSFORMERS ComicsStar Trek ComicsDoctor Who ComicsG.I. JOE Comics30 Days of Night ComicsTemplesmith Comics and True Blood Comics Collection.

All apps are live as of today, with new and old purchases alike syncing across the entire Comics by comiXology platform — iOSAndroidWeb and Kindle Fire. In addition, all IDW digital comics are also available for online purchases and reading through the simultaneous launch of a new digital comics store at read.idwpublishing.comIDW readers now have a true “buy once, read anywhere” experience!
