As many of you have seen over the weekend, it’s been a chaotic couple of days for the site. I must apologize firstly for being unable to deal with it as quickly as possible. Those who follow me on Twitter know that I’ve succumbed to a nasty ear infection and have slept most of the weekend away and am generally in pain when awake.
In working with tech support this weekend, it appears that there are some CPU draining elements to the site that are causing the slowdowns and timeouts. For the time being, we have changed our theme to a very basic one in order to not use CPU resources and try to determine what the issues are. I’ll be investigating new themes in the next day, hopefully when I’m recovered a bit more. I’m also going to be looking into new hosting services as well to deal with our CPU usage (dreamhost? Anyone else have a suggestion?). The folks at Fastdomain have been very helpful in trying to figure out what’s going on but I think we’re at a point where we need to move to something bigger as well.
I’m not so worried about the site, but I hope you recover from your ear infection soon. I had one a couple of years ago and it was horrible.
I suggest medialayer. They are a bit pricey but they are a much higher quality provider then fastdomain/bluehost
