Things didn’t last long for Patty Jenkins when it came to Thor 2 as she’s made an amicable split with Marvel Studios over helming the film. Jenkins was the one to pick up the spot after Kenneth Branagh opted not to return for the sequel, serving only as a producer. According to the information out there, the split was over creative differences in how to handle the film which isn’t a surprise as Marvel is very specific in what needs to be hit for the larger universe of films they’re putting together that are connected, something that other directors have struggled with as well. Interestingly, it’s being reported that Jenkins is still likely to work with Marvel on another superhero film, just not any sequels. This gives her a chance to make a more personal mark on it while also working within Marvel’s guidelines for the characters it has quite a history of.
A new director is expected to be announced soon as the studio has a November 15th, 2013 release date set.
