The details of the release still haven’t come out, but Amazon has updated with the box art and date for the release of HBO’s A Game Of Thrones. The first season of the series will arrive on March 6th, 2012, about a month ahead of the second season airing on the channel. There were expectations that they’d try to get the series out during the Christmas season in order to drive more sales and tie to the release of the new book earlier in the year as people get the box sets for gifts, but HBO is instead hoping to build up enthusiasm for the second season by getting people to buy/watch this and share it and raise up its subscriber numbers. You can see the artwork below for the sets; the Blu-ray edition will retail for $79.99 while the DVD edition will retail for $59.99.
Plot Concept: Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun. It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts and intrigues; to the vast and savage eastern lands; and all the way to the frozen north, where an 800-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords, and honest men…all will play the Game of Thrones.
