While Kisa isn’t a huge favorite of mine, I do enjoy his story a fair bit since it often does involve the actual work atmosphere. This episode has a good bit of work flavor to it as he’s chewed out for being distracted, but then learns later that there are other things just below the surface as well that are bubbling about. When a coworker who said she was going to be married to the job reveals that she’s getting married for real, it starts a conversation about expectations out of life and what has real meaning to it, as well as how far this particular job and skills can go. He knows some of what he wants out of life, but he also knows what he doesn’t want, and that’s Yukina. As much as he’s tried to push him away, it just doesn’t seem to work.

Yukina is a real tough problem for Kisa though because he’s essentially everything that Kisa wants out of a guy but not with him in particular. Yukina’s practically a stalker here as well with how he tries to set up things in order to spend time with Kisa and go out with him doing things. He simply doesn’t get the tone that Kisa is using and the way he’s trying to keep him at a distance. That whole thing leaves him feeling unsure of things and puts him in an easier mindset to just go out when someone he met a few months ago asks him out for the night, with some pretty base expectations involved that Kisa was even aware of, but in the end tries to deny a little bit. Which of course leads to a hugely awkward situation when Yukina arrives and sees them getting close.

The whole thing works to put the questionable parts of their relationship under a direct light to be dealt with, especially as a misunderstanding is part of the root of the problem. A lot of it though comes down to Kisa’s general uncertainty about things at times and the way he’s generally unsure about how things could possibly work between him and Yukina. Like a lot of people, he sabotages a relationship before it can really develop because of his insecurities, and that finally comes out in a way that makes everything clear to Yukina. When you discover that the person you love feels that you’d find someone better some day in the future, you want to do all you can to reassure them, forcefully or not. And that’s not exactly hard to do, the hard part is making sure the other person really understands it. I’m not a huge fan of Yukina, but he really does things generally right here to get his point across to Kisa.

In Summary:
This episode has a fair bit of fun as it works to clear up a few issues and settles things between Kisa and Yukina. While misunderstandings are often the root of things when it comes to series like this, and romance shows in general, this one also goes for the self confidence and self image route for Kisa as part of the problem .And it’s a very natural one to work with that comes across well, as it’s tied to his sense of not sure what he really wants out of life and what will really make him feel whole and complete. Add in a touch of fear and you’ve got someone that’s young and scared of the world and what it will bring but doesn’t know how to really vocalize it. He has some good stuff here but even Yukina manages to make some strides in being a bit more of an interesting character compared to before, and shuffling their relationship forward in a way where I’d actually want to see more of it, if they could avoid some of the obvious drama.
