Star Wars Thursday: May The Fork Be With You Thanksgiving Edition

3 min read

Welcome to this week’s edition of Star Wars Thursday, a celebration of all things fun, wild, and wacky in the Star Wars universe!

This week Star Wars Thursday falls on the same day as another quintessential American holiday – Thanksgiving. It’s the day we hopefully remember all the things that should make us feel grateful and then eat ourselves into a stupor. So in the spirit of giving thanks for the things that matter to me, I’d like to offer up my list of Star Wars Thankfulness.

A Well Spent Childhood
Yes, I’m biased – but I’m grateful that I saw the movies in the order I did. (The RIGHT order!) I was shocked and amazed along with Luke as he uncovered his family history and heard the fateful phrase, “I am your father”. I was also thankful that it meant there wouldn’t be too much conflict over Leia and Han becoming a couple when  it was confirmed that Leia was, indeed, the “other Skywalker”.

Also – a thank you to my amazing dad who humored me with his funny Yoda voice. Yes, he took the time to not only get the voice right but to also master the grammatical quirks that made Master Yoda unique in all the world. The video below is of my own personal Yoda who dispenses advice to my students and me from my desk.

Star Wars Support Group
My life is filled with friends and family who humor me – and even encourage me – to pursue my enjoyment of Star Wars. My mantel is adorned with Lego Star Wars battleships, my walls are covered with Star Wars images (including an amazing signed Carrie Fischer portrait I got for Mother’s Day), and my Christmas tree each year is covered with ornaments and topped by Yoda. If anyone wants to give me another reason to be thankful this holiday season – I wouldn’t say no to a gift of the ornament shown below. As long as it’s made quite clear that Han shot first, of course.

I offer another big “thank you” to all my online friends who post or send me humorous images and anecdotes all week long in the hopes that they will end up sent back out into the wild for Star Wars Thursdays.

Celebrate the day
Send some Star Wars Thanksgiving love to someone special in your life – Hallmark is offering a wonderful e-card featuring Darth Vader carving the turkey at http://www.hallmark.com/ECardDisplay/ECardDisplay/npz6549_DK   You can only send it if you have a subscription, but it may be worth it for this card alone!

Finally, you can get into the Star Wars Thanksgiving spirit by making a set of napkin rings for your festivities. You can craft your own combination of characters, but Bonnie Burton gives specific directions for the Jabba and Yoda on the Star Wars blog which is linked to the image below. If you try some other characters, take some pictures and send them in!

So get out there, spread the thankfulness, and come back next week for more Star Wars excitement. May the Force be with you!
