‘Star Trek’ Sequel Gets May 17th, 2013 Release

2 min read

While originally slated for a summer 2012 release, the sequel for the J.J. Abrams reboot of Star Trek ended up getting pushed off because of his involvement in Super 8. The original date that was slotted was given over to the G.I. Joe sequel and the Star Trek sequel has kind of sat there in terms of when it would hit, though there were some tentative ideas. Pre-production has been kicking in, casting going around with Benicio del Toro being confirmed as the villain, and scripting going through heavy rotation with the creative folks behind the first one getting down to it. Now Paramount has set the date because Sony moved their release of Singularity from May 17th to November 1st. And that means Star Trek 2 – 3D will be landing on the May 17th date. And yes, that’s right, it will be in 3D. ll key cast members will be returning such as Chris Pine and Zach Quinto and Zoe Saldana and the feature will again by a Bad Robot production with Abram’s Lost partner of Damon Lindelof co-writing.

May 2013 has a heavy pre-Memorial day slate so far:

  1. Iron Man 3 the first weekend
  2. Pacific Rim the second weekend
  3.  Star Trek 2 the third weekend
  4. Fast Six the fourth weekend
  5. The Lone Ranger the fifth weekend
