‘Booster Gold’ To Get SyFy Pilot Production

2 min read

Nothing gives a project a little extra credit like having Geoff Johns of DC Comics tweet about it himself. After an appearance in the final season of Smallville alongside his usual ally of Blue Beetle, it looks like Booster Gold will get a shot at the spotlight he so desperately craves. SyFy is putting Booster Gold into pilot mode for a one hour drama based on the comics character that started off as a fairly decent lighthearted comedy piece and has developed into some really intriguing ideas over the years, and played a key role in both 52 and Flashpoint in the comics world. The project, which likely will have zero relationship with what happened in Smallville, is being spearheaded by Berlanti Production along with Warner Horizon Television. Greg Berlanti is no stranger to science fiction and superheroes as he was involved with No Ordainry Family and Green Lantern but also has standard drama fare behind him as well with Brothers & Sister, all projects that will be useful for guiding this from pilot to potential series. The script is being worked on by Andrew Kreisberg who has worked on Fringe as well as Eli Stone, and of course DC Comics will have an executive producer credits as well. Berlanti and Kreisberg credits also extend to Warehouse 13 and Red Faction: Origins.

Plot concept: The story will center on Booster Gold, a washed-up athlete from the future who travels back to the present in hopes of becoming the greatest super hero of all time. Instead of chasing criminals, however, his main priority is chasing fame and money. But Booster Gold discovers that being a hero takes more than just a megawatt smile, and that the future doesn’t happen without first protecting the present.
