Media Blasters Sets ‘Squid Girl’ Anime Blu-ray For March 2012

1 min read

With the second half of the DVD run set to land on December 6th from Media Blasters, the company has opted to announce a March 13th, 2012 release date for the full first season of Squid Girl in bilingual form on Blu-ray. The three hundred minute set, containing the twelve episodes of the first season, will retail for $59.99 and is already set for preorder on Right Stuf. The series was simulcast on Crunchyroll to much positive reaction and a second season was commissioned which is also currently airing on Crunchyroll.

Plot concept: Foolish land-born air breathers! Behold the terror from the depths, the tentacled conqueror of humanity: Squid Girl! With your pollution and stuff you really deserve it, so prepare for menacing, inky doom!

Squid Girl has come from the depths of the sea to conquer humanity for its pollution of the ocean. Within moments of arriving on the surface world, our easily distracted little invertebrate is promptly bullied into working for the Aizawa sisters as a waitress, supplying their restaurant with squid ink. If poor Squid Girl can’t handle two pushy Japanese girls, how will she ever subjugate the human race?

  1. This kinda stuff really bugs me. I would almost always prefer to buy the Blu-ray even if I need to wait. But I hate not being told until I already have dvd set 1 that a blu-ray is coming.

Same thing when companies decide to go back and dub a show.

Are you trying to train me to stop preordering and that I am better off waiting. This is the same bs that occurred when companies would put out cheap collections as soon as the last disc in a set was released.

  2. Definitely glad that I passed on the DVD release. I figured that I would wait for the inevitable DVD collection to be announced like the day after the last DVD single releases. But knowing now that a BluRay set is on the way makes me very happy indeed. Can’t wait for it!

  3. Definitely have to agree with you there. They really are training their fans to not purchase their new releases. I’ve stopped preordering all singles releases and DVD releases, because 90% of the time a collection or BluRay is announced soon after. It’s just not realistic to expect fans to double or even triple dip on many of these shows. I feel really bad in particular for Clannad fans who bought three progressively better iterations of the series. That was just ice cold treatment of the fan base.

  4. But the thing is, these companies usually decide to release a show on BD (or dub it) later because the earlier DVDs sold well. If it weren’t for all the people who bought the subtitled version of Clannad it probably wouldn’t have gotten a dub. And if that version hadn’t sold well we probably wouldn’t have gotten the Blu-ray. Same with Squid Girl. If everyone passed up on the DVD sets, expecting a BD release down the line, and the DVDs flopped because of that, we probably wouldn’t be getting the Blu-ray at all.

  5. I’m well aware of how it works. And that’s why it’s a broken system, and a really shady way of doing business. Either way, I won’t fall into the trap myself. I don’t have the kind of disposable income to blow on three sets of the same series. It’s just not realistic.
