Casting Brief For Yamagata In ‘Akira’

2 min read

With all the news coming out of the pre-production side of the live action Akira, most are either screaming or laughing about it. But we have potential for at least Japanese descent character in the cast as the casting listing for the character of Yamagata has made its way out into the world. The role, looking for someone between 20 to 30 (which works, because there are a lot of young looking actors out there) that’s listed as being a Japanese character. With Akira mostly looking like the white boy club that it’s intended to be since it’s taking place in New Manhattan (and it’s all white there, right?), it shows some guts to cast someone who looks and may even be Japanese in the role of Yamagata.

In addition to this, we get another confirmation that production is set to start in March of 2012, which definitely highlights the feature as being either a spring/summer 2013 release or, if it looks truly awful, a January of February 2012 release.
