Sometimes the harmony with nature can be positively sleep inducing.

Sometimes you just have to have fun. And that’s what the start of this episode is and it does it right as we get to see the Thundertank used a bit more here, with the way it has the additional motorcars attached to it that Tigra and Lion-O decide to use to race and get ahead of Panthro with. It’s the kind of thing these two did all the time before their lives went to hell with the fall of their homeland, so it’s good to see them simply having some fun. And, of course, being upstaged by Cheetara who shows them that she’s the one with the real speed amongst the group. Naturally, there are other complications to the race brought in by the kids which is fun too but without a lot of meaning in the end.

What the race leads them to though is a race of elephant people that are living a near monastic life, one very much in tune with nature. They’re kind of amusing with how they’re rather forgetful in such a quick fashion, but they also offer up something important as they think they have a way of helping Lion-O see beyond his normal vision when it comes to using his weapons and glove. But it’s all rather pushed to the side when it’s discovered that this group harvests a particular fruit for themselves to survive, but also pull the majority of it for the locusts that come to a specific temple to take it, which they let happen very willingly. It’s a classic setup to be sure and one that confuses Lion-O, especially since this particular group has a good deal of strength to them.

The episode largely goes into telling two different stories, each with their own merits. We see the twins spending time with the Elephant people where they find out about being in harmony with nature and achieving it fairly well. Lion-O on the other hand wants to go and stop the locusts from causing them trouble, so he heads off alone to do so and just ends up in more trouble since he’s all about the violence and killing. It’s not an unexpected story direction once we meet this group and see their ways, and it even feels more forced than some recent episodes have which is unfortunate. On the plus side, it does have some fun action to it and a few cute moments, but overall this episode is practically the definition of filler.

In Summary:
While most episodes of shows like this are more about morality plays than anything else, some of them work better than others. This one didn’t work as well since it lost its focus and connection to the main storyline for most of it and felt like a side quest in a video game more than anything else. I completely get what it’s trying to do and everything as I’ve certainly seen these types of stories many, many times over the years. But this one didn’t manage to doe it in a compelling way and was simply kind of there. It has its charms in places, especially the opening sequence, but there wasn’t enough good meat to it to make it worthwhile and is the kind of episode that you’d skip easily when you get down to it.
